El Chaltén

A day among mountains

Just 220 km from El Calafate, the small town of El Chaltén is recognized as the National Trekking Capital. Founded in 1985, its origins are linked to both the development of mountain tourism and Argentina's territorial consolidation in the border area with Chile.

Located at the foot of Monte Fitz Roy, this destination combines nature, adventure, and Patagonian hospitality. A wide variety of marked trails depart from the town, allowing you to explore the northern Los Glaciares National Park : from short hikes like the Mirador de los Cóndores or Cascada Chorrillo del Salto, to longer treks to Laguna Capri, Laguna Torre, or Laguna de los Tres.

In addition to trekking, visitors can go biking, horseback riding, rock climbing, birdwatching, or simply enjoy the views of the Río de las Vueltas valley. The local cuisine is also part of the experience, with craft breweries, chocolates, and typical Patagonian dishes made with lamb or trout.

El Chaltén is much more than a mountain destination: it's a meeting point for travelers from around the world seeking to reconnect with the energy of nature and the serenity of the southern landscapes.

Every corner of the town exudes a free and adventurous spirit. The fresh air, the ever-changing colors of the sky, and the warmth of its people make El Chaltén a place you'll always want to return to, whether to discover new trails or simply to enjoy the peace that only Patagonia can offer.
